Dr. Daryl Hanley

Why did you become a veterinarian?

I grew up on a dairy farm surrounded by animals and was completely captivated every time our farm veterinarian came out. From the age of 13, that is all I’ve ever wanted to do.

What is your goal with every patient visit?

To establish a connection/bond between the pet and the owner and my practice. My goal is for the client to feel that they had fantastic service and value.

Who makes up your family (pets and/or people)?

Married to my vet school classmate Sonia Kollassa and we have a son Kelton and daughter Kamryn.

Do you have a mantra or philosophy that you live by?

Strive every day to make at least one connection with a client or bonding with their pet/companion animal. Sometimes it is just a phone call. Sometimes it is sharing in the loss of their pet. Sometimes it is celebrating the addition of a new puppy/kitten.

Dr. Corin Berg

Why did you become a veterinarian?

Originally, the desire came from growing up on the farm and seeing the duties performed by the vet. This was especially true in seeing how they were required in emergencies – people needed their help and I wanted to become that person.

What is your goal with every patient visit?

My goal is always to greet the owner and patient with a smile and to either renew a bond that had already been created or to forge a new one.

Who makes up your family (pets and/or people)?

My wife, our three children, our golden retriever and our DLH cat.

Do you have a mantra or philosophy that you live by?

Be honest with everyone and do the best that you can. Mistakes are only a problem if you don’t learn from them. Try to learn something new every day.

Dr. Becky Newman

Why did you become a veterinarian?

I am one of those people who knew, at the age of 10, that I wanted to be a veterinarian. I grew up on our family farm near Kitscoty, and spent my days surrounded by creatures, great and small. My love of animals became my calling. In becoming a veterinarian, I realized the difference that I could make in the lives of animals and their people. Whether it is determining the appropriate preventive health care plan for an animal, working through a complicated medical case, answering the questions of a new puppy owner or helping an old friend pass with peace and dignity, I get to make a difference every single day.

What is your goal with every patient visit?

My goal is to educate and empower owners to help their pets and livestock live a happy, healthy, pain free life for as long as possible. I am a believer that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. I hope that everyone I interact with leaves the vet clinic with new knowledge, the belief that we are in this together and knowing their pets’ wellbeing is my primary concern.

Who makes up your family (pets and/or people)?

Family is one of my core values, and comes in many forms. As an owner of the Lloydminster Animal Hospital and Southside Veterinary Clinic, I am privileged to work with an amazing team of dedicated and caring staff, and I consider them family. We work hard, we have fun and we support each other every day. Outside of veterinary medicine, my husband, Dustin, and I are hard at work raising 2 curious and adventurous children, Nora and Owen. We share our acreage with our dog, Lucy, our kitty, Gyspy, a coop of chickens and a couple sheep! We love camping, hiking, gardening and enjoying the beauty of the great outdoors together.

Do you have a mantra or philosophy that you live by?

Veterinary medicine is an amazing profession and I am thankful every day for the opportunities it has presented me with. I have a strong passion for lifelong learning, improving my skills and being the best veterinarian (and person!) that I can be, so I can continue making that difference, every day.

Dr. Joanne Heaver

Why did you become a veterinarian?

I really enjoy the challenge of veterinary medicine as every day is different. Helping animals and educating owners are the best parts of my job.

What is your goal with every patient visit?

Our patients can’t tell us what is wrong with them, so it is essential to perform a thorough evaluation. Taking time to address owner concerns and making a plan going forward is crucial to every owner visit.

Who makes up your family (pets and/or people)?

My husband and I adopted “Widget” from the SPCA four years ago and she has been such a good dog. I can’t emphasize enough the importance of dog training

Do you have a mantra or philosophy that you live by?

Be happy where you are. No one can tell you to be happy as it has to come from within.

What is your goal with every patient visit?

My goal is to listen carefully to the owner’s concerns and to address each of them. I really enjoy getting to know every pet and their family.

Who makes up your family (pets and/or people)?
